Tire Pond
Faricelli's "tire pond" was an illegal tire dump in the wetlands of the
Quinnipiac River. Despite fines and court injunctions from DEP and local
municipalities, Faricelli operated the dump and continued to accept tires
for almost 20 years.
NHEJN and Sierra Club nominated the dump for a Toxic Action Center
"Dirty Dozen Award". The tire pond won a place among the Dirty Dozen, and
we got a headline in the paper (the tire pond was one of the stops on our
Toxic Tour). The Tire Pond has now been closed down.
